Alpine Perspective

Scott lives in Salt Lake City and has spent the last few years backpacking, hiking, climbing, and “trying to reach the top of as many mountains as [he] possibly can”. He also runs his own outdoor blog, which means that he’s always on the lookout for new adventures and gear to try out.

These two interests recently combined on a month-long trip through South America with the Arc’teryx Rampart Pant, including a solo climb to the top of the El Misti volcano in Peru.

“This hike really tested my limits. In the dark of the desert, the temperature was very cold, but as the sun rose, temperatures went up very quickly and became unbearably hot. The Arc’teryx pants I was wearing were awesome. In the cold, I wore long underwear under them and stayed very warm. In the heat, they kept me cool. My gear was a big part of what kept me going.

I wanted to give up at several points on this climb, but I am very glad I did not. The reward from climbing mountains is something I cannot explain. I sincerely feel that the world would be a better place if people went into the mountains on a clear night to take in the overwhelming brightness of the stars. Every time I do this, it reminds me of my place in the universe.”

We couldn’t agree more. To find out more about Scott’s latest adventures, you can check out his blog.
