New Arc'teryx face fabric

A great deal of science goes into the research and development of every Arc'teryx garment. Featured on the 2012 redesigned Alpha SV Jacket, N80p-X is the result of years of effort and collaboration. In the performance of waterproof, breathable garments, the exterior face fabric is of primary importance. Preventing it from "wetting out" reduces heat loss, maintains breathability and consequently allows moisture to escape to the outer surface.

Five years in the making, developed in partnership with W.L. Gore, N80p-X is constructed from an 80 denier, false twist texture, high tenacity nylon 6,6 yarn, in plain weave, which is evenly balanced and extremely tight in both the warp and weft direction.

Translation: It has a flat surface, it's durable and it's engineered for longevity.

Loose fibres collect snow and break the surface tension of water droplets, which causes them to be absorbed. A high density thread count distributes load and increases fabric strength. Using false twisted yarns softens the texture plus adds durability as well as an elastic quality. Plain weave construction packs the false twisted yarns tightly to reduce movement, further reducing the possibility of snags and breaks.

With enough elasticity to resist fibre breakage, tightly packed for strength, and woven into a smooth water-shedding surface that puts minimal stress on the internal waterproof membrane, the science of high performance Arc'teryx weather protection considers all things, from the yarns to the finished surface.
