Arc'teryx Alpine Arc'ademy 2013
Over three hundred participants from nineteen countries attended this year's Arc'teryx Alpine Arc'ademy and took part in various clinics and workshops throughout the three-day period, designed to introduce and hone mountain skills. After a great start in 2012 with roughly 70 guests, the Arc'ademy has become an internationally renowned event, taking place at the Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix.
An amazing weekend of mountaineering education, experience, and inspiration, the Alpine Arc'ademy welcomes alpine beginners and skilled mountaineers alike. Among the courses offered are alpine climbing, high altitude mountaineering, mountain rescue, navigation in the mountains, and a chance to hone photographic skills with outdoor photographer and alpinist Alexandre Buisse.
One of the many highlights of the event was the Arc'teryx / GORE-TEX sewing booth at the Valley Station, where participants could learn to sew with GORE-TEX fabrics. Over a hundred and thirty handmade made stuff-sacks became proud souvenirs!
The Overnight Bivouac held at the Col du Midi allowed participants to connect with Arc'athletes Ines Papert, Luka Lindic, Jacob Slot, and Conny Zamernik, and mountain guide Gian Luck. The two groups of twelve committed mountaineers spent their nights on the glacier in veritable mountain comfort thanks to Hilleberg tents, Optimus stoves, and Trek'n Eat food.
"I came to the event on my own as a novice alpinist and can't wait to come back next year. It was amazing from start to finish, not just the courses; I did the Bivouac and the Glacier Tour, but the side events, the staff and the guides too, they made you feel very confident in the mountains. I will be back next year and bringing friends!" – Rob Parkin, participant from Kent, UK.
Over three hundred people took part in Saturday's Alpine Movie Night and Mountain Dinner. A free social event to inspire and showcase alpine films presented by some of the world's top mountain athletes, including Arc'athletes Nina Caprez and Will Gadd.
We'd like to sincerely thank everyone who attended this year's Alpine Arc'ademy, as well as the generous sponsors: GORE-TEX, Petzl, Scarpa, Suunto, and the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc. We had an amazing time and we already can't wait for the next Arc'ademy in 2014. We hope to see you there!
