Frozen Love

Over the past twelve years, Arc'athletes Tanja Schmitt and Matthias Scherer have shared a passion for climbing frozen waterfalls. They formed an inseparable team and have successfully mastered over four hundred ice falls together. This film, "Frozen Love", shows the highlights of their 2011/2012 ice-climbing season, with intense moments joy, rare beauty, and some harsh realities of this discipline.

The ice voyage starts on thin and brittle ice in Cogne (Italy) at the beginning of the season, takes you to mighty columns in the Freissinieres Valley (France), and further to extreme and seldom-formed lines like "Rapelle toi que tu est un homme" in the Couleau Valley (France). The film concludes in Norway, with impressive lines such as "Lipton" (WI7) and "Hydnesfossen".

By shooting all sequences while climbing, the goal was to capture the spirit of ice climbing in a very direct way. You're taken into the heart of a frozen, fragile world, capturing the cold and the fear, as well as the joy and passion.
