Catrin's athletic career began in the pool. From the age of 8 until 20, she was a distance freestyle swimmer, racing at the National level in the latter years. Once retired from competitive swimming, and after a busy time spent studying at university and tree planting, Catrin began to run.
Her love of the outdoors and physical activity prompted her to embark on a fantastic running journey that began in 2006, when she ran her first Victoria marathon. Not knowing what to expect beforehand, Catrin enjoyed every mile, crossing the finish line already looking forward to her next marathon.
In 2010/11, when living overseas in Cully, Switzerland, her passion towards the sport grew even stronger. Running through the Alps, along Lac Leman, and through the vineyards of the Lavaux region allowed Catrin to become a stronger runner both physically and mentally. It was there, in Switzerland, where she entered her first mountain race., a 10k event with over 800 metres of elevation gain.
From 2006 to 2012, Catrin has competed in 13 marathons, 8 of which she has placed top three in the overall women's category. In September of 2012, Catrin was a member of the Canadian Mountain Racing team competing at the World Championships in Tému Italy. For the upcoming 2013 season, the race calendar is filling up with a mix of both road and trail races, including Trans Rockies Solo3 in August, and a potential exploration of what Ultra marathons have to offer
Outside of running, Catrin is a practicing Registered Massage Therapist at Fix Healthcare and Yoga teacher for kids, families and runners in Victoria. She is excited and proud to be a part of the Arc'teryx community, as well as the running community of Victoria B.C.
