My name is Jason. I'm a 25 year old professional climber based in Squamish, BC.
My roots in the sport trace back to the local, chalk-dust-filled, indoor climbing gym. I was nine. For several years to follow, I'd read the classic mountain literature, pour over the climbing mags, poke around the rocks up the road in Squamish, and start to dream big dreams. But I sure wasn't thinking too hard about any of that at the time, I was happiest simply climbing for the sake of climbing.
These days I'm just as moved by the purity of movement in the gym, but my motivation is for high adventure in the big mountains. I like big alpine faces, small backpacks, and big question marks. I like being cold, staying up for multiple days on the go, and just generally being uncomfortable. I like to try things I'm probably going to fail at. It's all part of the joy of alpinism.
By now, my climbing has taken me about as far away from that gym as I ever thought possible. Along the way I've had some pretty great success, as well as some truly awesome failure! I'm glad to report I still just really like doing it.
