Catrin’s athletic career began in the pool. From the age of 8 until 20, she was a distance freestyle swimmer, racing at the National level in the latter years. Once retired from competitive swimming, and after a busy time spent studying at university and tree planting throughout BC, Catrin began to run.
Her love of the outdoors and physical activity prompted her to embark on a fantastic running journey that began in 2006, when she ran her first Victoria marathon. Not knowing what to expect beforehand, Catrin enjoyed every mile, crossing the finish line already looking forward to her next marathon.
In 2010/11, when living overseas in Cully, Switzerland, her passion towards the sport grew even stronger. Running through the Alps, along Lac Leman, and through the vineyards of the Lavaux region allowed Catrin to become a stronger runner both physically and mentally. It was there, in Switzerland, where she entered her first mountain race and had a taste for what trail running had to offer.
Since 2006, Catrin has competed in over 15 marathons both locally and internationally. She was a member of Team Canada at the 2013 Francophone Games in Nice France and raced for Team Canada as a member of the Canadian Mountain Running team competing at the World Championships in Tému Italy 2012.
2013 was one of her biggest racing years to date, which included her first Ultra trail races. Both the Gorge Waterfalls 50k and the Squamish 50k gave Catrin the desire to focus more on ultra running and the challenges that trail running has to offer.
Outside of running, Catrin is a practicing Registered Massage Therapist. She is excited and proud to be a part of the Arc’teryx community, as well as the running community of Victoria B.C, where she continues to explore trails in the region.
