Stian Hagen

Born: 1974
Current Residence: Chamonix France
Website: StianHagen.com

Stian Hagen grew up in Oslo, Norway, and skiing has been a part of his life since he could walk. He competed in cross-country skiing and ski-jumping up to the age of sixteen before he decided that he wanted to pursue what was then known as extreme skiing. At the age of eighteen, he moved to Chamonix and quickly ticked off the classic extreme skiing lines, including the Mallory route on the north face of Aiguille du Midi, the Couturier Couloire on Aiguille du Vert, and the East face of Matterhorn, just to name a few.

Stian competed in the Freeride World Tour for a few years before deciding to put all his energy into filming. He’s had numerous segments in ski films from Matchstick Productions, Warren Miller, Teddybear Crisis, and Wink Inc.

Although he would never turn down a chance for a heli ride, skitouring and expedition skiing has always been closest to his heart. This passion has taken him to remote places like Antarctica, Himalayas, Bolivia, and Jan Mayen island.

For the upcoming season, Stian is planning trips to a remote cabin in the north of Norway in the middle of the Arctic winter, a ski mountaineering trip to a remote island outside Japan, and to open a Haute Route trip thorough the mountains of Norway.

Stian is what one would call a “gear freak” and has lately been raving about the Arc’teryx Beta AR Glove being the best ski glove he has ever used. And after starting to wear Arc’teryx clothing, he has given up his passion for wool underwear in exchange for the Phase baselayer collection.
